Taiwan’s optoelectronics industry is leading the world with a top production capacity in LED TVs and notebook computers. The material used in backlight modules of LCD screens – CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) features the merits of high brightness, low temperature operation, power saving, longer life, etc. Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp or CCFL in short is classified as a kind of high-pressure mercury discharge lamp coated with a layer of phosphor on the interior glass and sealed with a small amount of inert gas and slight volume of mercury within the fluorescent lamp. While discharging, the mercury atoms will be bombarded by electrons to generate ultraviolet ray and converted by phosphor to become visible light (the ultraviolet ray is being isolated by phosphor coating within the tube). Discharge begins whenever power is switched on, and with direct additional of high voltage from both ends, the mercury electrons will be bombarded with gas electrons within the tube to generate ultraviolet ray, and the ultraviolet ray will be converted into visible light when it gets in touch with phosphor on the wall. As no filament is used in CCFL, there is no burnout problem and hence it is able to offer a very reliable service life.
